Palak paneer is a famous North Indian curry with full of flavor. This is the simple version with tofu. Quick and economical recipe. Eat it with rice, roti or naan.


  • Firm tofu 1 pack
  • Salt a pinch
  • Red chili powder ¼ tsp
  • Kasoori methi ¼ tsp
  • Oil 1-2 tsp
  • For Spinach Gravy
  • Spinach 4 cups (fresh finely chopped)
  • Sugar a pinch
  • Oil 2-3 tsp
  • Cumin seeds ¼ tsp
  • Garlic 2 cloves (finely chopped)
  • Onion 1 medium (finely chopped)
  • Tomato paste ½ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chili powder ½ tsp
  • Cumin powder ½ tsp
  • Turmeric a pinch
  • Garam masala powder ¼ tsp
  • Ginger 1 inch piece (julienned)

Cooking Directions

  1. Press tofu with the help of plate to remove moisture and leave for 30-40 minutes, then cut in cubes.
  2. Put tofu plate in a wide plate and sprinkle salt, red chili powder and kasoori methi all over cubes.
  3. Now heat oil in frying pan and toast tofu cubes from both sides until golden and crisp.
  4. Remove from stove and keep aside.
  5. In cooking pan add washed and chopped spinach, pinch of sugar and little water. Cook for 2 minutes.
  6. Let it cool, then blend into a fine paste.
  7. Heat oil in a pan, sizzle cumin seeds and garlic then add onion, sauté till golden brown.
  8. Now add tomato paste and cook until oil comes on top.
  9. Add salt, red chili powder, cumin powder and turmeric and fry for a while.
  10. Add spinach puree and cook for 2 minutes. Add garam masala and tofu. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  11. At the end add julienned ginger and remove from stove.
